Miami Young Republicans

First the news on our blowout social event.  Join the Miami Young Republicans, the Broward YRs and the Palm Beach YRs for YR night at the Marlins. Saturday, July 17 we'll begin with a tailgate at 4 pm at the stadium.  Many candidates at all levels are expected to join us.  First pitch vs. the Washington Nationals is 7 pm.  For an excellent discount on tickets and to join our group seats, vist www.marlins.com/youngrepublicans The password for the group is "young republicans".  Tickets in the block are going fast!

We also ask that you join us for a very important meeting of the Miami Young Republicans on Tuesday, July 27 as we set the path for the future of both our organization and for Republican candidates in Florida.

Our meeting will begin with board elections.  We'll have open the positions of treasurer, secretary, and directors of public relations, club development, political action, fundraising, special projects & outreach, and social events, as well as 2 at-large positions. Come support the new club leadership and share your opinions on the direction of our organization.

Our guest for the evening is David Rivera.  Mr. Rivera is chairman of the Miami-Dade Republican Executive Committee and a candidate for U.S. House.

David Rivera will speak about opportunities for you to make a real difference by helping inform registered Republican voters about the opinions for early voting, absentee voting, etc.

It's not an overstatement, it's a fact--- elections are won or lost by Get Out The Vote campaigns.  This is where your volunteering can truly swing an election.

Mr. Rivera will also be speaking about the party's Lincoln Day Dinner.  On July 31 the Party is holding a very special event that will feature House Majority Whip Eric Cantor, a farewell to Congressman Lincoln Diaz-Balart, and a keynote presentation from Marco Rubio.  David will be speak about how you can attend this special event.

Our meeting begins at 6:30 pm with a social hour, including 1/2 price drinks and appetizer specials.  The business of the meeting will begin promptly at 7:30 pm.  We meet at the Sports Exchange, 45 Miracle Mile in Coral Gables.

We look forward to seeing you at an upcoming event!

Thanks to all who came out to last week's meeting of the Miami Young Republicans.   Those who did got to meet U.S. House candidate Donna Milo, heard from some candidates for our July elections, and joined in a lively and informed discussion with representatives for and against Amendment 4 -- the Florida Hometown Democracy Amendment.

Here are just a few events that you'll find on our regularly updated calendar at www.miamiyoungrepublicans.com.

On Thursday, July 1 the Miami-Dade Teenage Republicans are having a dinner/fundraiser at the Los Ranchos located at 125 SW 107th Avenue.in Miami.  This will be a special occasion as it is the installation of the board for this new club.  We are happy to support this organization of the next generation of Young Republicans, and encourage everyone to support them.  The event is just $25 if you contact them before June 30 at (786) 308-8080.  The event begins at 6:00 pm, with dinner served promptly at 6:30 pm.

On the higher end of the scale, the Bill McCollum for Governor campaign is having a big fundraiser on Thursday, July 15 at the Miami City Club beginning at 7 pm.  The suggested donation is $500, but if you have a different idea you can contact Mehras at (786) 472-1959 for details

Our featured event for July is going to be the Marlins-Nationals tailgate on Saturday, July 17.  This will be a huge featured event for FFYR Region VIII, which is our club, the Broward County Young Republicans and the Palm Beach County Young Republicans.  The game is the Marlins vs. the Washington Nationals, and first pitch is at 7:10 pm.

Come out before the game for a tailgate starting at 4:00 pm.  We'll have several featured guests at our tailgate, including Marco Rubio and several other prominent candidates, to be named shortly.  Watch these e-mails for information shortly on how you can join our block of tickets at the game for a special group rate of 26% off tickets.   After the game, the Marlins are presenting fireworks and a concert by Hector Acosta "El Torito".  Tickets will be limited for this game, so please watch for a note from us soon on details on how you can join us for this huge Region VIII event.

First off, congratulations to Kevin Cerino, Miami Young Republicans club chairman and past president.  He was recently elected secretary of the Florida Federation of Young Republicans!  Kevin will be part of the executive board of the statewide organization we are a member of, and at last Saturday's meeting in addition to the elections we also heard from several prominent statewide politicians including Bill McCollum, Jeff Kottkamp and Pam Bondi.

There's a lot going on with the Miami Young Republicans.   Here are just a few upcoming opportunities for you to get involved...

* Friday, June 18 at 5:30 pm is our next social.  Join us for happy hour at La Palma, located at 116 Alhambra Circle in Coral Gables.  Kick off the weekend in style at this lovely bar and restaurant with your fellow Young Republicans.   If you plan to attend, check out http://www.facebook.com/#!/event.php?eid=133900726621926&ref=ts and let us know you're coming!

* Saturday, June 19 at 9:00 am Miami YRs member and state house candidate Juan D'Arce is having a breakfast meet-and-greet at Islas Canarias restaurant, which is located at  13697 SW 26 Street (Coral Way) in Miami.  Check out his website, www.juan2010.com, for information.

* Tuesday, June 22 is our next general meeting.  We start with a happy hour at 6:30 pm (2 for 1!), and the meeting itself at 7:30 pm.  We have a great agenda for the meeting:

  • A recap of the FFYR annual meeting
  • A review of our club offices that will be up in the July election (and candidates can announce!)
  • US House district 20 candidate Donna Milo
  • A discussion featuring official representatives speaking FOR and AGAINST Amendment 4, the Florida Hometown Democracy Amendment.  This may be the most hotly contested amendment on the ballot this Fall.  One recent article said "Hometown Democracy's Amendment 4 is either Floridians' "final opportunity" to take control of the state's growth or a Trojan horse that would make matters worse." Which is it? Well, we hope you'll come and ask!

* Charlies "Charlie" Lopez is a member of our club and a candidate for state house district 118.  He's hosting a special campaign event on July 4 at the Black Point Marina and Homestead Harris Field from 6pm - 8pm. Come help pass out campaign literature and stay for the fireworks.   The park is located at 1034 NE Eighth St., Homestead, FL 33033
(US1 & 312 Street).
