A little bit on the August meeting, then onto the awesome opportunities to get involved, meet the candidates, and meet some fellow YRs!

The August general meeting was another vibrant, lively Biscayne Bay Young Republicans event. We had four state rep candidates (Tony Japour, Gus Barreiro, Marcus Rivchin, Joseph Sosa), as well as Manny Diaz, Jr, candidate for Maimi-Dade county school board, and representatives from Anitere Flores's state senate campaign.

Our special guest was David Rivera, state representative, state senate candidate, and chairman of the Miami-Dade Republican Executive Committee. David presided over the swearing in of the new BBYR board.

Saturday, 9/12:
For those who can't make it up to the 9/12 tea party rally on the National Mall, there will be a local tea party on Bird Road and 87th avenue. The last tea party had more than 3000 come out! Noon to 3pm.

Lots of news in the world of Biscayne Bay Young Republicans. Here’s a sample of what’s up for the next couple of months…

The August meeting is Tuesday, August 25 at Havana Harry’s, which is located at 4612 S. LeJeune Road in Coral Gables. (Or, in Miamispeak, “on LeJeune, a couple of blocks up from US1”). Social hour begins at 6:30, the meeting in earnest begins at 7:30.

Special guests will include State Representative and Miami-Dade REC chair David Rivera, who will conduct the inauguration of the new board; and SFlaConservative.com founder and editor Marcos Sendon, who will be speaking about the 9/12 project and the upcoming rally on the Mall in DC. Several other state reps. and candidates also are expected.

Of course, being Young Republicans, we’re also out to put the party in the Party. We’re all set for a happy hour social at the Chart House on Thursday, September 10. More info to come shortly on drink specials and more information!

Our public relations director, Erik Hofmeyer, is also a public affairs officer at Homestead Air Reserve Base, and he has extended a special invitation for us to attend Wings Over Homestead, the amazing military air show coming to Homestead November 7 & 8. Last update, more on this at the August meeting… Biscayne Bay Young Republicans has partnered with the FIU College Republicans, and we are going to officially extend a challenge for a Crist – Rubio debate… will they accept? Who knows, but either way we’ll be ready!
