August News 8/17/10

From social events to statewide meetings to volunteering opportunities to socials, here's some news about how you can get involved.

First is a call to action. One way Miami Young Republicans can help drive people to the polls is to help drive people to the polls. Whether it's primary election day (Tuesday, August 24) or for the general election, getting out the vote is key to winning, especially in a community like ours where Republican voters have a wide range of ages.

We've already received one request to transport a voter, so we need to get this database built quickly. Can you be available to assist with giving voters rides to the polls? If so, let us know and we'll include you in our database, especially for election day.

Our next update will include details about the August 24 meeting, which will include watching primary results roll in. Contact This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it if you're looking for a place to volunteer!

Here's a social just for "the better half" of our club, a Miami Young Republicans Women's Club event! The invitation follows, c/o Social Director Ruthie Napier.

Hello my lovely ladies! Hope everyone is doing well. This coming Tuesday (Aug. 17) I will be hosting another social at my place from 7 pm till whenever. I wanted to make this a pot luck type of thing, so please RSVP on here and let me know what you'd be willing to bring - a food or drink item. I hope you all can come! Also, depending on what everyone feels like, there is the option of wandering down to the outdoor bar in my building, too :) Feel free to call me: 786.390.4540

Address: 300 S. Biscayne Blvd. Apt #1028 Miami, FL 33131

Directions: My building is called Met 1. It is on Biscayne between SE 3rd and 4th streets downtown. It's right where the Miami River meets the Bay, across from the Citi building and Intercontinental. There is valet parking (the garage entrance is on the corner of 3rd and Biscayne). Also, there is street parking/lot parking by the Intercontinental and across from Bayfront Park.

xx,

Ruthie

The Florida Federation of Young Republicans quarterly meeting takes place in Tampa August 27-28. Carolyn Johnson, FFYR Chair, shares the following update:

It's not too late to register for the FFYR Summer Quarterly! Registration will remain at $79 these remaining two weeks to give everyone an opportunity to attend.

Don't miss out on an exciting quarterly taking place August 27th-28th in Tampa! This will be the first time to hear from all of the statewide candidates after the primary, and it's guaranteed to be an action packed, fun weekend. All statewide candidates have been invited, and some have already verbally confirmed their attendance. We will also be featuring a panel on the constitutional amendments on this November's ballot (those that are remaining), and Congressman Gus Bilirakis will be attending to give us a Washington update.

This is also a great opportunity to interact with like minded leaders across the state! If you haven't attended a quarterly before, now is the perfect time.

Just head to ffyr.org to register. I have copied below a tentative agenda for planning purposes.

Hope to see you in Tampa!

Do you know a "Golden Cane"? Do you or a friend have parking passes and season tickets to the Hurricanes games at Sun Life Stadium (Joe Robbie)?

Several campaigns have contacted us requesting we host a political tailgate before the FSU - Miami game, which is Saturday October 9. This comes on the heels of our very successful Marlins tailgate last month.

We are in need of someone who can be our connection for a LOCATION. Could that someone be you? If so, please e-mail us at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .

Our next meeting is Tuesday, August 24. That date should sound familiar, it's also the day of the big primary elections! Spend the day volunteering, waving signs, making calls or helping voters get rides to the polls... then when polls close come join us to watch the results roll in! Stay tuned to these newsletters, the website, and the Facebook group for details and locations for the party.

Please contact us on how to match you up with opportunities to volunteer. Even an hour helps! This is where Young Republicans WIN elections.

July News 7/13/10

First the news on our blowout social event.  Join the Miami Young Republicans, the Broward YRs and the Palm Beach YRs for YR night at the Marlins. Saturday, July 17 we'll begin with a tailgate at 4 pm at the stadium.  Many candidates at all levels are expected to join us.  First pitch vs. the Washington Nationals is 7 pm.  For an excellent discount on tickets and to join our group seats, vist www.marlins.com/youngrepublicans The password for the group is "young republicans".  Tickets in the block are going fast!

We also ask that you join us for a very important meeting of the Miami Young Republicans on Tuesday, July 27 as we set the path for the future of both our organization and for Republican candidates in Florida.

Our meeting will begin with board elections.  We'll have open the positions of treasurer, secretary, and directors of public relations, club development, political action, fundraising, special projects & outreach, and social events, as well as 2 at-large positions. Come support the new club leadership and share your opinions on the direction of our organization.

Our guest for the evening is David Rivera.  Mr. Rivera is chairman of the Miami-Dade Republican Executive Committee and a candidate for U.S. House.

David Rivera will speak about opportunities for you to make a real difference by helping inform registered Republican voters about the opinions for early voting, absentee voting, etc.

It's not an overstatement, it's a fact--- elections are won or lost by Get Out The Vote campaigns.  This is where your volunteering can truly swing an election.

Mr. Rivera will also be speaking about the party's Lincoln Day Dinner.  On July 31 the Party is holding a very special event that will feature House Majority Whip Eric Cantor, a farewell to Congressman Lincoln Diaz-Balart, and a keynote presentation from Marco Rubio.  David will be speak about how you can attend this special event.

Our meeting begins at 6:30 pm with a social hour, including 1/2 price drinks and appetizer specials.  The business of the meeting will begin promptly at 7:30 pm.  We meet at the Sports Exchange, 45 Miracle Mile in Coral Gables.

We look forward to seeing you at an upcoming event!
