Miami Young Republicans Welcome U.S. Efforts to Support Freedom and End Communist Rule in Cuba

January 30, 2026

MIAMI, FLORIDA - Today, the Miami Young Republicans express strong support for the United States aggressive new campaign to dismantle the brutal communist dictatorship that has strangled Cuba for far too long.

For more than six decades, Cuban Americans have long carried the hopes of freedom for their families and loved ones still living under a repressive communist regime in Havana.

“We celebrate and stand behind President Trump’s efforts to bring freedom to Cuba. For generations, the Cuban people have endured a repressive regime that has systematically denied fundamental human rights, suffocated economic liberty, and led to the destruction of a once beautiful country. As a Cuban American, I am proud of President Trump and Secretary Rubio’s strong actions to dismantle the failed dictatorship and pave the way for genuine democracy. - Miguel Granda, President of the Miami Young Republicans

By targeting the regime’s malign activities—such as hosting Russia’s largest overseas signals intelligence facility, providing safe havens to transnational terrorist groups including Hezbollah and Hamas, aligning with adversarial powers to undermine U.S. interests, and fueling regional instability—President Trump’s latest Executive Order offers the Cuban people the clearest path yet to shatter the chains of oppression and claim the liberty they have been cruelly denied.

A successful U.S.-led push to dismantle the communist regime would decisively eliminate a long-standing security vulnerability just 90 miles from American shores. It would sever Havana’s role as a platform for adversarial powers, including intelligence footholds and influence operations by Russia, China, and others, thereby reinforcing U.S. dominance in the hemisphere under the renewed Monroe Doctrine framework and help curb Cuba’s malign external interference that has destabilized Latin America for decades. - Armando Ibarra, Chairman of the Miami Young Republicans.

The Miami Young Republicans stand fully prepared to collaborate closely with U.S. policymakers to guarantee that any transition dismantles the current repressive apparatus, rigorously upholds human rights, enshrines the rule of law, and delivers lasting prosperity and dignity to every Cuban.
