MIAMI (March 28, 2024) - The Miami Young Republicans hosted its 2024 Legislative Homecoming to celebrate the organization’s historic success in passing its Legislative Priorities during the recently concluded Florida legislative session.

Hosted alongside the Women’s Republican Club of Miami Federated, more than 150 YR members and supporters joined legislators and staff members including Representative David Borrero, Representative Alina Garcia, Representative Fabian Basabe, and Alian Collazo, former Chief of Staff to State Senator Alexis Calatayud.

Miami Young Republicans legislators and advocates achieved major victories during the 2024 legislative session, continuing a tradition of effective advocacy and elevating the voices of emerging leaders. Our successfully passed legislative priorities include:

  • HB1/HB 3: Protects children online by requiring age verification for harmful content & features.

  • HB 1365: Prohibits vagrancy and provides resources to address homelessness.

  • HB 7063: Combats human trafficking by prohibiting employment of anyone younger than 21 in adult entertainment venues.

  • HB 1007: Protects Florida consumers from hazardous vaping products.

  • SB 1264: Establishes the Institute for Freedom in the Americas and requires schools to teach about the history of suffering caused by communism.

  • SM 540: Highlights the threat from Chinese military bases and advisors in Cuba.

  • HB 917: Strengthens vocational and technical training and provides additional educational opportunities for young people in high demand fields.

“This event was more than a celebration, it was an opportunity to elevate the voices of young leaders and stakeholders and drive a meaningful conversation on Florida’s future,” said Tony Figueroa, President of Miami Young Republicans. “We’re thrilled that so many were in attendance to listen and, in a more exciting way, showcasing a desire to get further involved in the legislative process and bring forth new, bold ideas to keep our state free and prosperous.”

“The passage of these important pieces of legislation is a testament to the leadership and impact of Miami Young Republicans legislators and advocates at all levels of government. Our members are leading the charge in Tallahassee, Washington, and South Florida, addressing major issues with innovative solutions that should be replicated nationwide,” said Armando Ibarra, Chairman of the Miami Young Republicans.
